Cody has been at me for some time about an image of the cheshire cat. The Cheshire Cat has long been associated with the metaphysical and surreal nature of Pararescue work. A medium that is entertaining, charismatic and horrifying all at the same time. It took me some time and pain to boil this down. The Disney version just seemed too commercial and cartoony. In all the other images throughout my childhood none is as dramatic as the original illustrations from the original prints done by John Tennial in 1865. There is a certain power and drama that is conveyed in that early era of print press art that is for lack of a better word “Haunting”. To say the least Cody is passionate about his life and the things he is involved in. I wish I could be there when his kids ask about the smiling cat.
